Bluegrass United

A Homeschool Community

What is Bluegrass United?

Bluegrass United is: 1) the name used to describe a community of Central Kentucky high school home schooled students and 2) the organizational structure that supports them. Bluegrass United is not a support group. It is not a co-op, nor do you join it or pay dues to it.  Instead, students who choose to participate in any of the activities and programs offered by Bluegrass United are automatically considered "members" of the community. These students are supported by a unique organizational structure that seeks to unite the home schooling community for the purpose of strengthening its impact, increasing its desirability and furthering its influence.

How Is Bluegrass United Structured?

Bluegrass United is an “umbrella” organization for many high school programs. The umbrella organization 1) Advocates for home education through the high school years, 2) Is involved in the creation and implementation of high school programming, 3) Oversees Bluegrass United programs and 4) Maintains the Bluegrass United web site and email lists. The BU advisory committee oversees these functions.

Currently, 14 programs, or "spokes," exist under the Bluegrass United “umbrella.” Each spoke is independently operated and has its own leadership, organizational structure, bank account, etc. Bluegrass United retains some limited oversight responsibilities for each program. The 14 independently-run spokes of Bluegrass United are:
